Privacy Policy
Last updated September 24, 2026
Don’t Build It Yet (“DBIY,” “we,” “us”) is a Canadian-operated online business. This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect through this website and the DBIY products, why we collect it, and how it is used. It applies to the free resources, the paid products (Business Idea Comparison, Business Idea Adaptation, the DBIY Instagram DM Lead Tracker app, and Business Launch Day VIP), and the affiliate program.
This is a practical privacy policy written for a small, independently-run business. It is not a substitute for legal advice, and nothing here should be read as a guarantee of compliance with every law that could apply to every visitor, wherever she is located.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use the site, we collect:
- Freebie email signup. If you request the free Business Idea Gut Check, we collect the email address you provide so we can send you the resource, and, only if you opt in separately, occasional follow-up emails about DBIY.
- Account information. If you create a DBIY account (for the Instagram DM Lead Tracker app or the Business Idea Adaptation workbook), we collect the email address and password you provide. Your password is handled by our authentication provider and is never visible to us in plain text.
- Content you add inside the app. If you use the Instagram DM Lead Tracker, the leads, notes, follow-ups, and related activity you enter are stored so the app can function. This is your own business data, entered by you.
- Business Idea Adaptation workbook. Answers you enter in the workbook, and any AI-generated output you choose to save, are stored to your account so you can return to them later.
- Purchases and payments. When you buy a DBIY product, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. We do receive purchase confirmation details from Stripe (such as your email address and what you purchased) so we can grant access to the product and keep a record of the sale.
- Affiliate applications. If you apply to the affiliate program, we collect your name, email address, business or Instagram handle, PayPal email address, and country, so we can review your application and, if approved, send commission payouts.
- Basic website and application usage. Like most websites, our hosting and analytics infrastructure may log basic technical information (such as browser type and general usage patterns) needed to operate and secure the site. We do not run invasive tracking or sell this information.
Why we collect it and how it is used
- To deliver the free resource, product, or service you asked for.
- To create and maintain your account, and to let you log back in.
- To process your purchase and grant access to the product you bought.
- To send you transactional emails (such as purchase confirmations) and, only where you have opted in, marketing emails.
- To review and administer affiliate applications and pay approved affiliates.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the site and the app, and to keep them secure.
We do not sell your personal information.
Email communications
Transactional emails (like a purchase receipt or a link to reset your password) are sent as part of providing the product or service you requested, and are not optional marketing. Marketing emails (such as follow-up content after the free Gut Check) are only sent if you opt in, and every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Third-party services we use
We rely on a small number of established third-party services to run DBIY. We do not consider using these services a substitute for our own privacy obligations, and this policy covers our own collection and use of your information in addition to what these providers do on our behalf:
- Stripe, to process payments. Stripe has its own privacy policy governing how it handles payment information.
- Supabase, to handle account authentication and to store account and application data securely.
- Resend, to deliver transactional and, where you have opted in, marketing emails.
- Vercel, to host the website and application.
Data retention and deletion
We keep account and purchase information for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to meet basic business, tax, and legal recordkeeping needs. If you would like your account or data deleted, contact us using the details below and we will do our best to accommodate your request within a reasonable timeframe, subject to what we need to keep for legitimate business or legal reasons (for example, records of a completed purchase). We cannot promise instantaneous deletion across every backup or third-party system.
Security
We use reputable third-party providers (Stripe, Supabase, Resend, Vercel) that maintain their own security practices, and we take reasonable steps to protect the information we collect. No online service can guarantee perfect security, and we cannot promise that information you send us will never be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by a breach of any safeguard.
Your rights and choices
- You can ask what personal information we hold about you.
- You can ask us to correct inaccurate information.
- You can ask us to delete your information, as described above.
- You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in those emails.
To exercise any of these, contact us using the details in the Terms & Conditions page, or through the feedback option available inside the app.
Children
DBIY products are intended for business owners and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as the products change. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of the site or app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
