Business Idea Comparison
Too many ideas? Let’s find out which one actually deserves a real test.
A focused $19 workbook that compares up to 3 business ideas side by side, on the criteria that actually matter, so you stop ranking them in your head at 11pm and start with something you can actually act on.
Comparing forever isn’t deciding. It just feels productive.
Having options feels better than having none, until you’re three weeks into researching three different ideas and no closer to starting any of them. There’s always one more idea to look into first. That’s not due diligence. It’s just a more exhausting way to stay stuck.
One idea forces a decision: test it, or don’t. Three ideas let you avoid deciding entirely. This exists to end that loop with an actual answer, not another opinion to add to the pile.
What’s included
A place to name and briefly describe up to 3 ideas you're genuinely considering
A 10-criteria scorecard for each idea: demand, money, time, energy, life fit, interest, testability, customer access, complexity, and building risk
A simple 1 to 5 rating scale, clearly framed as a thinking tool, not a scientific score, every rating needs a written reason next to it
A printable side-by-side comparison table so you can see all three ideas at a glance
The Real Life Filter: which idea actually fits the hours, money, and energy you have right now
The DBIY "What am I avoiding?" check, for catching when comparing has quietly become a way to avoid testing anything
A 48-hour testability check for each idea
A final decision page: Test This One, Adapt Then Test, or Park These For Now, decided by you
How it works
Name up to 3 real ideas
The ones you'd actually consider starting this season, not the most impressive ones.
Score each one honestly
10 criteria, 1 to 5, with a short reason written next to every score.
Compare them side by side
One table. No more holding three sets of impressions in your head at once.
Decide, and set your 48-hour test
Not a business plan. One real action that gets you evidence this week.
What makes this different
This isn’t a spreadsheet, and it isn’t a quiz that spits out a winner. There isn’t one objectively best business idea. There’s the one that currently fits your actual hours, money, energy, and appetite for the work best. This gives you a structured, honest way to see that clearly.

Who it's NOT for
- ·Someone with just one idea (go straight to Business Idea Adaptation)
- ·Someone wanting to be told which idea is "correct"
- ·Someone not ready to actually test anything yet
Questions before you start
I only have one idea. Is this still for me?+
Probably not this one. This tool exists to compare ideas against each other, so with only one idea there's nothing to compare it to. Go straight to Business Idea Adaptation instead, it does the deep single-idea work this product doesn't.
Does this tell me which idea is objectively the best?+
No, and it's not trying to. There isn't one objectively best business idea sitting out there waiting to be found. This makes your own assumptions visible and comparable so you can decide, with real reasoning instead of a hunch you can't quite explain.
What if all three ideas score about the same?+
That happens, and it's still useful information. The Real Life Filter and Testability Check sections are built for exactly that tie-breaking moment.
Is this different from the free 10-Minute Gut Check?+
Yes. The Gut Check asks whether one idea is worth a look. This assumes you already have a couple of ideas worth looking at, and helps you decide which one earns your time first.
How long does this take?+
Roughly 30 to 45 minutes for all three ideas, less if you're only comparing two.
What happens after you decide
You've chosen what deserves a real test. Next: what needs to change before you build it.
Picking the right idea doesn't mean the idea is ready. Business Idea Adaptation is the $39 interactive workbook, built into your DBIY account, that examines your chosen idea in depth and runs it through the DBIY Adaptation Engine for a personalized analysis of exactly what to adapt before you build anything.
